How to Switch Between Keyboards on Your iPhone

If you are bilingual, either between English and Spanish or between English and emoji, chances are you've had some experience with keyboards on your iPhone. You can access new iPhone keyboards whether you're fluent in another language, have a need to use emojis to express yourself, or want to use a third-party keyboard. Once you've set up the multiple keyboards, it's easy to switch between them. Here's how to switch between keyboards on your iPhone.

  • Select Keyboard.
  • Then select Keyboards.

You'll see a list of the keyboards you've already enabled. Below that will be the option to Add New Keyboard.

  • To add another language keyboard or a third-party app keyboard, you'd select that and then select the keyboard you want from the menu of available keyboards.

You can also reorder your existing keyboards or delete one while in the Keyboards settings:

  • Tap Edit in the top right corner. This is useful particularly for bilingual people who want to choose their dominant texting language.
  • Hold your finger over the three vertical lines and drag to reorder your keyboards.

Now that your keyboard is set up, head over to Messages or another app that uses the keyboard, such as Notes.

You can access the other keyboards two ways:

  • Tap the globe to shuffle through the keyboard selections (ideal for users with only two keyboards enabled.)
  • Or hold down the globe icon and simply tap on the one you want to switch to (ideal for users with more than two keyboards enabled.)

Now you can switch between keyboards as quickly as you can use them!
